Teaching

Courses, mentoring, and intensive teaching formats across forest sciences

I teach across semester courses, block courses, labs, seminars, and summer schools. My work usually combines course design, hands-on teaching, supervision, and the development of practical materials that help students connect quantitative methods with real ecological and management questions.

What students can expect

  • Clear structure, but space for discussion and exploration
  • Methods tied to practical forest science problems
  • Teaching formats that mix concepts, tools, and application

Teaching Philosophy

Short version

I aim to make complex topics feel workable. My teaching focuses on helping students move from uncertainty to structured reasoning: understanding the question, choosing the right methods, communicating results clearly, and developing confidence to work independently. I care especially about creating courses where theory is useful because it is applied, discussed, and tested in realistic contexts.

Applied learning

Concepts are linked to real forest management, ecology, modeling, and data analysis problems.

Student ownership

I try to give students tools, feedback, and structure so they can build confidence in their own decisions.

Communication matters

Strong science needs reproducibility, clear methods, clear writing, clear figures, and clear presentations, not only good analysis.
